Since the first go-around was one hell of a ride, we’re too excited to contain ourselves about getting into the swing of things with the second installment of Benson’s First Friday. On Friday, July 6, expect the same amenities taking over the main drag of Benson, including a 30+ artist showcase, a catwalk fashion show, live music, after-dark street projections and booze. There will also be some new features to stir things up a bit, such as a fully functional kissing booth… YUM! See you out there, folks!

Local artist Evan Crown poses outside of Jane’e Health Market with his own creative projections as the backdrop in this photo. Evan provided visual entertainment as the sun dropped into nighttime Friday at Benson’s First Friday. His visuals may have been so mesmerizing that it could have been the cause of a car accident on 61st and Maple. To us, that cause is still yet to be determined.

Hear Nebraska has recently relocated its HQ’s to the Benson neighborhood in Omaha. The creative culture is constantly bubbling out of every orifice this neighborhood has to offer, so it is great to see these nostalgic photos and understand the community’s roots.

By now it’s well known that Conor Oberst did, in fact, take over Benson a few weeks ago with a very special, intimate performance at Krug Park. For those of you who want to relive the night, or experience what you missed, watch this high quality video of Conor playing “Lenders in the Temple,” and “Laura Laurent,” right here.

Likely to be dubbed the best, unexpected surprise show of the year, Conor Oberst’s calling to Krug Park on Sunday, Jan. 15 for an intimate performance flocked well over a hundred people to the Benson roost. I’m sure if the word got out to the general public, there would have been utter chaos on a typically silent Sabbath. For those who made the show, they witnessed something truly great that will likely never be recreated. For a review and photo essay of the night from HN’s Andrew Norman and Daniel Muller, click here.

Tom May of The Menzingers made a stop in Omaha a couple of weeks ago supporting himself on a solo tour. HN caught a glimpse of him prior to his show, and accompanied Tom to an alleyway in Benson to shoot a live video of his song “Downriver Opiates,” which is a song about Michigan.

Omaha rock band Noah’s Ark Was A Spaceship perfectly pinpointed their tractor beam on Hear Nebraska and pulled us into their house to catch a glimpse of what has been going on the past three months within the band. Fortunately, the band had quite a bit to say in this video interview. Watch the video to see what’s been up with the band, how they feel about being from Omaha, and get a sneak peek of their latest track, “Jewelbeast.”
