Unleashed to the web yesterday, this photo may have been the perfect enabler to bring up those lousy Monday spirits. The Faint documented their first practice “in a long time.” We’re not exactly sure what will come out of this practice, but keep posted with us to follow The Faint’s progression.

She’s a lewd, crude, rude… misguided dude. She also has a huge herp on her upper lip. Herpe Betty is a new webseries created by Harrison Martin and Michelle Murphy that follows the tale of a young, haphazard spinster on her quest for primordial love. The inaugural episode of the series features cast members from Omaha bands such as Tilly and the Wall, The Faint, Icky Blossoms, Capgun Coup and STDZ. Hop on over to the site to read the interview with Murphy and Martin and see the episode here.

For the fellow film junkies and aficionados out there, this announcement should be a great treat. Starting this Friday, October 21, Film Streams will debut a new, five stretch series entitled, “Silents in Concert.”  The series stretches from now until December 15, 2011.  Given the fact that every movie selected for the series is a classic silent film, each picture will be accompanied by live music from various, talented musicians that have played a major role in developing a distinct Nebraska sound.  Each showing will truly invoke a unique, special experience.
This Friday, October 21, catch NOSFERATU (1922), with the musical articulations depicted through the sounds of Todd Fink (The Faint, Depressed Buttons), Orenda Fink (Azure Ray), and Ben Brodin (recording engineer at ARC Studios).  For more details to the Silent Series, check out the complete HN article here.

By Neal Obermeyer

I was about midway through a four-hour shift on 90.3 KRNU in the middle of winter break 1998-99 when the studio line rang for the first time that day.

“I like your show. You should be our friend.”

I had no idea who I was talking to at the time, but I would come to learn it was Mistina, now Mistina La Fave — back then it was Mistina Keith, identified in hand-written liner notes at the time as Mistina X.
